About the Image(s)

As we were driving along a country road on Orcas Island off the northwest coast of Washington, I spotted a few sheep grazing in a field. What especially attracted me were the birds atop them. I also like the triangular design of two sheep in the front and another in the distance. Shot with a Canon 7D, 70-300 mm lens at 155 mm, f/11 at 1/400 second. Modest cropping and editing in Lightroom.

What a nice capture, but it seems somewhat bright to me. I would suggest reducing the exposure just a touch, and then use the shadows slider to bring out more detail on the sheep on the right. Your camera settings, I think, are just right for this kind of shot. Good work.   Posted: 07/05/2024 15:44:52

Good processing Mike. I am especially attracted to the tone, texture and colors of the tall grass. Unfortunately, the position of the sheepdogs not form a pleasing pattern.   Posted: 07/18/2024 15:14:17

Good capture and light on the front sheep. I might have made it just a hair lighter. Yes, the birds do make the image and I like your crop as well.   Posted: 07/18/2024 16:54:55

It's nice to see the third sheep in the back which I feel adds to the composition. I agree with Peggy about the right hand sheep - I feel the face could be lighter.   Posted: 07/19/2024 21:53:50

An unusual take on your part, where the sheep are somewhat obscured by the grass, but that does portray a sense of a natural setting. Obviously, you can't control the sun angle, but as it is, you have the shade side facing you, which cuts back a lot of the animals' detail. On the other hand you do have a natural hair light. Perhaps try a soft dodging tool to brighten up the big sheep.   Posted: 07/22/2024 15:24:10
