About the Image(s)
This lifelike sculpture of a couple strolling the gardens of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden was created by the artist, Seward Johnson. They looked so real, I had to take their picture. I've done very little editing to the final - mainly lightening it and a bit of cropping.

Nice shot of a fun work of art. Was there an angle from which you could have included the feet?
Here is the original painting by Gustave Caillebotte, Paris Rainy Day, 1877.
The painting is important to photographers, in my opinion, because it is an early example of a composition split in half down the center, something often done now by photographers.   Posted: 04/05/2025 03:30:13

Stephen, thanks for your comments and especially the historical context of this sculpture. I knew none of that. Yes, I did have another shot that included their feet. In that shot you see clearly that they are standing on mulch, and the image is not as realistic to me. In my chosen shot, you can maybe imagine that they are walking on a little paved path.

You don't often see colored in statues, so this is unique. As I find that my eyes almost always go to the brightest part of an image, here, the umbrella is too distracting. You can compare the way the umbrellas in the painting are treated -- much darker -- and the rainy day offers a nice soft box ambience. Your picture would have benefited from a passing cloud or even taken later in the day. Or darkening the umbrellas in editing.   Posted: 04/14/2025 16:14:33
Interesting image. I agree with Jerry about the umbrella being distracting.   Posted: 04/14/2025 18:17:23
Yes, at first glance this image looks very realistic and although in the exhibition world it is considered recording someone else work of art, I would have recoded it too. I like better the second image because it does not give me the feeling that they are going to walk into a bush. I am sure the umbrella can be fixed and I would crop a bit more from the top. Also consider adding some creative enhancement to make it YOUR work of art.   Posted: 04/15/2025 17:34:16
Agree about the second image over the first. Could that front wall be removed in Lightroom? That and the tone down of the umbrella would help.   Posted: 04/15/2025 21:01:09
