About the Image(s)
I captured this image several years ago at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. I used a Rebel camera outfitted with a 18-135 mm lens. This was shot at 39mm, f/10 at 1/250 seconds. The ISO was 400. I processed this in Lightroom. The main editing was cropping to bring more focus and attention on the tree. I felt this produced a serene shot.

This image has a nice soft feeling about it. Brightening or sharpening it would spoil the mood. Judging from the original, I would say that it can be presented as a vertical and as a horizontal as well. As a horizontal, the bush to the right of it can be a strong supporting element; supported further by the lovely mountains in the background. I think it can use a little more breathing room at the top, which can be easily added.   Posted: 03/04/2025 13:37:00
I agree with Joe that this image could be horizontal as well as vertical. I somewhat prefer the horizontal because of the additional mountains. Also the character of the sky comes through better in the horizontal. Very nicely done.   Posted: 03/05/2025 10:56:05
The vertical version focuses on the tree; the horizontal version focuses on the surrounding area. Each is fine depending on where you want the emphasis. I don't have the same feeling about the "mood." I would enhance the tree and increase the saturation and brightness.   Posted: 03/06/2025 15:16:54
If the bush wasn't cut off in the vertical orientation, or if it wasn't even there, I would go with that. I may have to flip a coin, but I'd say I was favoring the horizontal, with maybe cropping in somewhat from both sides. Going horizontal would present some additional interesting visual elements.   Posted: 03/12/2025 20:14:40
