About the Image(s)
Attached is the original and final of Goblin Moon taken at Goblin Valley State Park, Utah. I captured this harvest moon with my Canon EOS R5, Canon 100-400mm lens on a tripod. ISO 640, 400mm, f/16, 1/320 sec. I also set my shooting aspect ratio to 1.6, so the total focal length was 640mm. Basic edits in LR, then in PS, selected the sky and added a bluer hue, then selected the moon and applied a curves layer to brighten and added a slight contrast, added a small glow effect, and a freelance vignette, then cropped in LR.

Almost looks like a foot kicking up a ball. The enhancement of the sky looks good. I'm not sure if the moon is totally full as I'm seeing some differences between the right and left sides. At first I thought perhaps you had selected the moon and it didn't make a clean selection. The left side appears to not be as sharp an edge as the right which made me wonder whether it was not full or whether it was a processing issue. Anyway, very nice.   Posted: 11/07/2024 06:00:52

I believe the moon was 98% waxing on this day.   Posted: 11/20/2024 17:33:57

I'm confused about the timing of this shot. Was it early morning? Or was the moon rising late in the day? The strong side lighting with the red rock kind of looks like sunset. At any rate, it's a very interesting shot in a unique location. Your color enhancement is quite effective.   Posted: 11/09/2024 17:11:33

The moon was rising and the sun setting.   Posted: 11/20/2024 17:35:06

This reminds me of an image that remains with me although it's been many, many years since I encountered it. I was standing on Lookout Mountain, which overlooks the city of Chattanooga far below, while taking in a sunset over the Smokies at the end of a clear, beautiful day; I was on a narrow part of the mountain which allowed me to move not more than a few hundred feet over to the other side just in time to catch sight of a full moon rising over the city down below. Everything was very still, except I remember hearing the sound of a train far off in the distance.   Posted: 11/21/2024 14:23:51

The burnt orange, blue and white make for a pleasing color combination. Maybe a bit heavy on the vignetting. Interesting and creative combining of pictorial elements. Should the moon be moved a bit off center? Does anyone see a camel bouncing a beach ball off its head? Original take.   Posted: 11/10/2024 13:34:05

The vignette appears heavy with this post. I will get that resolved. I purposely, centered the moon…sometimes it's fun to break the rules!!   Posted: 11/20/2024 17:38:37

Really a great shot here and I liked the coloration of the rocks. I wonder if putting a little more contrast and saturation in the moon might enhance the subject just a bit.   Posted: 11/12/2024 19:36:21

I tried more contrast, but it didn't look right, so I reduced it.   Posted: 11/20/2024 17:39:42

This demonstrates that a lot of photography depends on being at the right place at the right time. You were at the right place and at the right time to capture an excellent image.   Posted: 11/14/2024 13:29:33

This was a gift for sure. I was on top of a rock structure and glanced up to find the moon rising. I quickly decended and scrambled to find a good composition.   Posted: 11/20/2024 17:36:50

Congratulations Kaylyn on your efforts and being able to capture this image. I wonder if you took other pictures at differwent angles, with the moon not so centered. Good point by Marti. If you want, I believe you can fix the softness on the left of the moon by selecting and copying the moon, then flipping it horizontally and then superimposing just the edge of the moon over the left side of the moon.   Posted: 11/23/2024 15:04:34
