Two Barnacle Geese by Mike Cowdrey, MPSA

July 2024 - Two Barnacle Geese

About the Image(s)

Two days ago, at my favorite Straw's Bridge Lake, three Barnacle Geese had arrived.
Not only had I never seen a Barnacle Goose before, they are only supposed to visit the North East of UK occasionally in Winter months. So what they were doing here in June? I don't understand, unless they had escaped from a collection. I managed to take quite a few shots of them, which was good, because when I visited the lake today, they had moved on!

Nikon D750, Sigma 150 - 500 @ 200, AP F9, ISO 1250.

Mike, super image! The geese are sharp as a tack, good catch lights in their eyes and slightly ripply lake water is very nice. I sure wish I had a Straw's Bridge Lake near me.   Posted: 07/02/2024 21:46:25

This a very nice capture. I would try to add a little black and a little contrast. As is, it is still well done.   Posted: 07/02/2024 22:15:50

Maybe they blew off course and ended up at your lake. Lucky you. Pretty geese. I love the water colors and texture as a background.   Posted: 07/03/2024 01:31:31

Mike, just a question. Are they the same size as Canada Geese or smaller like Brant Geese?   Posted: 07/08/2024 15:21:22

They are slightly smaller than Canadas!   Posted: 07/08/2024 19:07:50

Both images are great, I slightly prefer the second one with the odd number of geese, not overlapping with each other. Though the first one suggests togetherness. Where are they normally found?   Posted: 07/17/2024 20:46:26

Their home is in the Arctic!   Posted: 07/19/2024 06:59:11
