About the Image(s)
While visiting New England, we spent some time at Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park, Maine, where we came across these three beautiful Wood Ducks. They stayed together the entire time, constantly swimming close to one another. I was lucky enough to capture quite a few images of them!
Images taken with a Nikon D850, 200-500mm Nikkor Lens, Focal Length 240 mm, ISO-500, 1/100, 6.3 .

There are no other ducks as beautiful as the Wood Duck. The Egyptian Goose is colorful too. The behavior of the Ducks you captured is vibrant and perfectly focused.
I shot a male and female Wood Duck in September, but your image is outstanding in color kaleidoscope. The angle was perfect to separate each duck.   Posted: 10/01/2026 20:08:17

Thank you Ted for the kind words. These three stayed together all day.   Posted: 10/03/2026 18:03:04
You certainly have your ducks in a row :) The colours of the wood ducks are amazing with the focus point on the middle duck. The front and back ducks are a little softer. A larger depth of field may have taken the sharpness to all three birds. I love how their colours are reflecting in the water creating such beautiful patterns. Great capture!   Posted: 10/02/2026 01:53:01
Ducks in a row! So very funny Toya! These were all grab shot shooting thru a rusty chain link fence. Sharpness could have been better. Thank you for your comments.   Posted: 10/03/2026 18:10:23
I love woodies. They are our most beautiful duck. I bet these are brothers. The ducklings swim together even into adult plumage. After that they go their own ways and find mates of their own. We used to have them on our pond, but now with the drought and high temperatures, there is no more pond and no more ducks. It's very sad.   Posted: 10/03/2026 04:11:35
Leslie, we have downpours every other day but we are still in a drought and with water restrictions. Thank you for your comments.   Posted: 10/03/2026 18:12:36
I would love to see three at a time. For me the photo is not sharp and is lacking detail. Do you have any shots at a faster shutte and a higher f stop?   Posted: 10/03/2026 13:22:08
Michael, thank you for your comments. Like I mentioned to Toya, these wood duck shots were grab shots through a rusty chain link fence, at an angle with a lot of obstructions in the water. I will check and see if I have better ones.   Posted: 10/03/2026 18:18:24
