About the Image(s)
There was a group of sparrows at our backyard feeders last year and I noticed for the first time ever that some had a yellow patch over each eye. I learned that this was a white-throated sparrow Native to the Americas only. Handheld full frame camera with handheld 400 mm, 1/1250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 2000.

You really have perfected the close-ups of often over-looked, less-than-flamboyant birds. Your backgrounds have been great and the detail of the subjects has been spot-on. Seeing the sparrow's colorful details is great.   Posted: 08/02/2026 15:43:26

The photo is sharp with great detail in the feathers. I am a firm believer in fast shutter speed when not using flash. I am amazed at the detail you achieved without flash.

Thanks Michael. I have a flash, but have never used in in Bird Photography.   Posted: 08/15/2026 14:19:49
Jim,
Your image of the White-Throated Sparrow is tight and sharp. What clinches the award-winning picture is the low attitude, which also enhances the bokeh. These birds are super fast and skittish. You were fortunate that the Sparrow temporarily posed for you.   Posted: 08/05/2026 13:57:49

You should always keep an eye on sparrows. You might come across surprises like this from time to time. It is a truly beautiful photograph, rich in detail and color.   Posted: 08/07/2026 20:34:08

Jim, as I've said before, you seem to have an abundance of gorgeous small birds right in your yard, and your ability to photograph them is truly outstanding. It appears you never have to leave home! This White-throated Sparrow is no exception. The beautiful lighting, low shooting angle, and exceptional sharpness all come together to make this a superb image.   Posted: 08/13/2026 13:33:32

Well shot image of this colourful bird, with the background nicely held back. I might have increased the F number slightly to give a little more detail in the body feathers?   Posted: 08/14/2026 08:00:42
