Pied Kingfisher by Veysi Arcagok

December 2025 - Pied Kingfisher

About the Image(s)

This pied kingfishers (ceryle rudis) were taken near the Tigris River in Trkiye’s Diyarbakr province. This kingfisher feeds mainly on fish, although it will take crustaceans and large aquatic insects such as dragonfly larvae. It is quite exciting to watch these birds and take their photographs.

Hi Veysi,

Your image of the Pied Kingfisher is most difficult to capture. And, since you shot both Kingfishers in flight is remarkable. The fact that the flight path was close to the water allowed for the complimentary reflection of the four subjects.   Posted: 12/01/2025 14:43:08

Welcome to the group. The water colors are a lovely backdrop for these kingfishers. Capturing both in flight, with their nice reflections was a good feat. You might consider a tighter crop so we could see the birds better...or not, it's your photo.   Posted: 12/03/2025 22:26:52

Thanks. I cropped the birds to make them look closer, but it didn't follow the rule of thirds. That's why I adjusted it this way. Thanks for your comment.   Posted: 12/04/2025 17:27:10

I always adhere to the adage..."rules are to be broken". Not always of course, but sometimes for sure.   Posted: 12/10/2025 03:28:50

Veysi, first and foremost welcome to our group. Really like this image. Normally I don't care for an even numbers of anything but sometimes the rules have to be broken. The Pied Kingfisher is a striking bird and beautifully caught. I love the background and and it is certainly non distracting. Very well done.   Posted: 12/04/2025 19:03:12

I only took a photo of one of the birds, but I thought it would be better to have two birds in the reflection in the background. Thank you very much.   Posted: 12/05/2025 06:51:24
