About the Image(s)
Taken in early June at Beeston Canal in Nottingham. This caused a lot of discussion on Facebook, with various suggestions of what was in it's beak. Someone said lead shot and the appropriate authorities should be contacted. Others said it was fruit. Since there were a lot of Brandy Bottle Water Lilies growing nearby, my own idea is that it is the bud from one of these!

Very nice catch of a Moorhen. I have to agree that it has picked up something to eat such as a bud, berry or fruit. I don't think a bird would pick up a led shot. His expression is that he is not going to give it away. Very realistic colors but I do wish the eye was a little sharper.   Posted: 07/04/2025 20:57:20
Ditto what Tom said. Something odd about the separation between the bird and the water. Perhaps include more of the moorhen and straighten the crop??   Posted: 07/08/2025 07:07:37
I agree. I think the image might need to be rotated slightly counter clockwise.   Posted: 07/15/2025 18:41:15
Mike, it's always fun for me to see birds I've never seen before and this one doesn't disappoint. The poise of the bird is great and the colors are striking. While the beak and eye looks tack sharp to me, the eye does seem a little cloudy. There is a light halo around the birds beak and head, would this be from over sharpening?   Posted: 07/17/2025 19:54:06
what a fabulous catch. Beautiful bird with distinctive coloring. Agree with Jim about the halo. Well done.   Posted: 07/20/2025 20:10:02
My guess is the photo was run through a denoise program and it got a bit overdone?   Posted: 07/24/2025 17:01:30
THis is a beautiful bird. It might have been over worked.   Posted: 07/27/2025 08:27:35
