Crimson-breasted Shrike by Leslie Larson

May 2025 - Crimson-breasted Shrike

About the Image(s)

The Crimson-breasted Shrike is one of the more colorful residents of the Kalahari Desert. Hard to miss this one when it flies by, although I only saw it displaying like this the one time.
We visited Botswana for a 5 week safari organized by a local outfit for an extremely reasonable price. Ask me about it if anyone is ready for a trip to Botswana.

Leslie, I am so impressed with the bird images that you have presented from Botswana. My thoughts on that area was heat, poverty and being eaten by a lion. Guess I was way off base. Your Crimson-breasted Shrike is outstanding. Love the pose and sharpness. Also like the background from sharp to soft. Thought about removing the leaves in the top right but then again the bird is looking at something in that area. What a magnificent bird!   Posted: 05/04/2025 00:59:15

Leslie, beautiful image with such a vibrant red color. The detail and sharpness from top to bottom is excellent, especially the eye, which I think makes this image. How lucky to get this pose and in this setting too. Very nice.   Posted: 05/09/2025 21:18:55

Leslie,

As a matter of fact, I will be visiting Botswana in June/July. This Shrike image is crisp and the color pleasing. I love the head positioned high and catch light in the eye.   Posted: 05/12/2025 20:35:16

It is a spectacular country. You'll have a great time. If you are interested I've written a travel blog about Botswana. There are 9 chapters. Mostly photos, but some other info as well. To advance click arrow on right side of page.

Thank you, Leslie

Your safari travels are very thorough and informative. It's a lot of information that I will have to revisit and review before my wife and I arrive in country.   Posted: 05/13/2025 00:40:10
