Resting Spoonbill Pair by Tom Buckard

May 2025 - Resting Spoonbill Pair

About the Image(s)

Several weeks ago, we were at the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm Rookery and we watched this pair of Spoonbills nest making for a few days. Finally, at 5:33 one night they stopped to rest and I caught this image.

Shot with a Nikon D850, 5:33 PM, Speed 1/1000th of a sec, Focal Length 240mm, ISO-5000, F/6.3, Lens was an Nikkor 200-500mm.

Tom, this is an amazing shot. The color is just stunning. What luck to have both birds positioned as they are side by side in their setting with nesting materials, almost as though the scene was choregraphed. Very nice photo.   Posted: 05/05/2025 16:15:36

Tom,

The Roseate Spoonbills resting seems symmetrical in shape and color. The catch light in both eyes show an alertness in their surroundings. Nice image   Posted: 05/12/2025 20:27:58

Thank you so much Ted, I couldn't believe they stood there so long without moving. Heading back over to the Alligator Farm real soon. Welcome to our Bird group. I think you will be a great addition.   Posted: 05/12/2025 21:58:52
