Pied Oystercatchers Foraging by Leslie Larson

April 2025 - Pied Oystercatchers Foraging

About the Image(s)

I found these Pied Oystercatchers hunting for tidbits along the shore near La Paz, Baja CA. I have a soft spot for oystercatchers.
Canon EOS R5, f/9, 1/500, ISO 250, 300mm.

Leslie, a very interesting photo. The colors are great, especially the orange of the beak and liner of the eye, very distinctive. The foreground and both birds are in focus and sharp with just enough blur in the background. I like the position of each bird facing opposite directions, presumably focused on their search for their next meal. I enjoy seeing photos from members in this group of birds I've never seen before. Very nice photo.   Posted: 04/05/2025 23:59:30

Good colors Leslie, very sharp. I don't seem to mind the fact that they are merging, but was still wondering if you have another shot where they aren't merged.   Posted: 04/07/2025 20:20:32

Beautiful image Leslie. The Oystercatchers are super sharp. I might have cropped a little water off the top but that is just a personal preference. Great concentration stance and the eyes really pop. Excellent.   Posted: 04/07/2025 21:10:40

We get a lot of this attractive bird in UK. Your image depicts them well. I think it is good that you have shown them merged, as a depiction of their interaction.
Perhaps crop down a little from the top? I love the colouration of the mud, birds, and water too!   Posted: 04/18/2025 10:05:13
