About the Image(s)
Grey Heron are nesting at my local park as early as usual. Even though the temperature has remained below zero. They use last year's nests, which they refresh with new material. This one has obviously chosen a very large branch to impress.
Nikon D750, Nikkor 70 - 300 (at 300), AP F9, ISO 1250.

Well, hmm. A little fuzzy and over-exposed, but it was a good catch with that big nesting stick and the colors are lovely. (Faster shutter speed on burst next time).   Posted: 02/08/2025 00:06:11
Mike, your Grey Heron sure looks like our Great Blue Heron. Agree with Leslie's comments and you certainly did catch the Heron at the peak of action. Nest building makes it even better. Our Great Blues in Central Florida are sitting on their nests and we expect chicks very soon.   Posted: 02/15/2025 00:15:16
I agree a slightly faster shutter speed may have sharpened the bird a bit more. Maybe a bit less contrast would be helpful too. All in all, though, a very good picture I'd be proud to have shot   Posted: 02/18/2025 02:23:48
I really like the pose of the bird in this shot, and carrying nesting material in flight is a bonus. I also like how the morning light is reflected off the branch. Great capture. The bokeh in the water and shoreline as your background is nice. The colors are pleasing. As mentioned above, a faster shutter speed might have sharpened the image somewhat.   Posted: 02/18/2025 18:53:49
it is a great capture. Al detail in the feathers has been lost
