About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Michigan. I used a Canon 5D Mark1/V with a 70-20mm lens and a 1.4x extender . It was shot at 280mm, F5.6/ 1/800th . and ISO 4,000. Dxo was used for noise reduction and the rest was done in PS Camera Raw.

Oh you do find the good ones. The green water with the loon is very nice and the reflection is amazingly clear.   Posted: 01/13/2025 00:18:57

Amazing image of a Loon. Have shot images of loons in Maine many times but normally they are so far away that the images are mediocre. This image ia an excellent composition, and all technical aspects to me are outstanding except I feel that it needs a small bit more space over it head. So I added it. What do you think?   Posted: 01/13/2025 13:59:45

Excellent capture, these loons are generally quite elusive and it can be hard to get close enough. I agree also, just needs a tiny more amount of space over the loon's head.   Posted: 01/14/2025 16:03:16

Michael, this is a nice shot of a loon with its reflection on the water. The green color in the water from the tree reflections adds interest to the image as well. The eye is tack sharp with great catch-light and the pose of the bird's head is nice, seems to be looking right at you. I am impressed with the quality of the image when using a 1.4 x multiplier on your 70-200 mm lens. I'm curious to know if you hand-held your camera or was a tripod used?   Posted: 01/16/2025 20:36:12

It was hand held. I was on a boat.   Posted: 01/17/2025 03:49:51

Super record of the bird and it's reflection. The posture is great too! The extra space above the head works well.   Posted: 01/29/2025 08:11:37
