Hornbill by Michael Braunstein

December 2024 - Hornbill

About the Image(s)

This photo of a Hornbill was taken in Malaysia.

I used a canon R6 with a Canon 100-500mm lens and a 1.4x extender. It was shot at 560mm 1/500th F9 and ISO 12,800. No flash was used. DXO was used for the noise. I use Photoshop Camera RAW for processing.

Michael, you and Leslie really come up with amazing unusual birds. This one is no exception. Has great impact and interest. I did feel it is a stronger image by cropping a little of the right side. This is a excellent composition and is quite striking.   Posted: 12/09/2024 01:35:34

An amazing bird to be sure. It's not quite as sharp as your usual submission, but it's so spectacular, who cares. I like Tom's crop. I think sometimes the extenders tend to dilute the sharpness of the good lenses.   Posted: 12/09/2024 03:57:22

Michael, an unusual, interesting bird, I've never seen anything quite like this. I agree with Leslie about the crop.   Posted: 12/18/2024 21:19:36

Lots of detail in this great image! Rather than cropping, it could be argued that your shot shows more detail of the natural habitat!   Posted: 12/19/2024 12:25:03

Thank you. I also did not want to crop further because resolution would be lost   Posted: 12/19/2024 14:29:43
