December 2024 - Geese And Stick Set

About the Image(s)

On a November visit to Straw's Bridge, I noticed the white goose playing
with a stick that it had found in the lake, and I began taking shots. As I
watched, the greylag also showed an interest, and grabbed the stick, and
began playing with it while the white goose looked on.
I managed to create a set which showed the behaviour in full!

Nikon D750, Nikkor 70-300 at 150, AP F9, ISO 1250.

Mike, I love this double triptych image. All are sharp, good eyes, perfectly framed and tell a story beginning to end. This is a Wow! Very original approach.   Posted: 12/09/2024 01:05:48

good story for sure. white goose doesn't seem too upset that its toy was stolen. Would be interested in your technique for making multiple images like this. Only way I know how to do it is by using PowerPoint first. But there has to be a better way.   Posted: 12/09/2024 03:53:13

Thanks Leslie. The method I use - Create large white background. Size each photo equally. Use Rectangular Marquee Tool to fully cover each photo. Copy and Paste each into background and use Move Tool to position. Crop total image to size and save.   Posted: 12/09/2024 10:55:43

I wondered how you did this also. Thanks for the explanation Mike.   Posted: 12/09/2024 13:25:01

Good nature story with this series of images. Is "greylag" the species name of the grey goose?   Posted: 12/18/2024 21:13:38

Yes. The greylag is an attractive goose breed, a little smaller than the Canada goose. There is occasionally some cross-breeding. The greylags flock to Straw's Bridge in groups of up to 100. The Canada's can reach groups of 200 at a time!   Posted: 12/19/2024 12:07:16

Thanks Mike. But the white goose in the image is not a Canada Goose, they have a lot of black on their heads and necks.

I am aware that the white goose is not a Canada. I don't think I would have described it as such!   Posted: 12/20/2024 05:57:29

Thanks Mike. I might have read a bit too much into your comment above.   Posted: 12/20/2024 15:22:14
