The Good Shepherd by Adi Ben-Senior

July 2024 - The Good Shepherd

About the Image(s)

I took it in Oct 2017 in Romania. In the forest there was a little creek and a narrow passage of which the sheeps had to squeeze through while jumping over it. I liked the fact there were no obstructions in the background. I kneeled down and clicked it 3 times. I took it hand held with a Nikon D810 camera with a 24-120 f4 zoom @ f7; S 0.4" ; iso 200 ; Aperture priority B&W setting.

I can see how the this caught your eye. You were working quick. The movement is interesting. My eye only sees focus on the right of the image. I think this would have more impact if more focus toward the center.   Posted: 07/07/2024 15:24:01

Hi Jay. This is exactly my intention. To see the motion on the left but to focus only on the one male guarding, on the left.   Posted: 07/09/2024 16:54:09

HI Adi,
I think this is a terrific image and shows a great use of both selective focus and slow shutter speed. When I see the sheep in focus it's almost as if they are asking `You want ME to squeeze in THERE?). Well done!

I love the way you have done this. The movement of the flock being overseen by the sheep on the right. The choice of monochrome also suits the subject. good imagination and technique.   Posted: 07/13/2024 08:55:38

I like this image a lot. The blurry sheep contrasts well with the sharp ones occupying the upper third of the frame. I like the monochrome treatment. Well done.   Posted: 07/15/2024 16:50:20

An interesting treatment of the scene. I personally think I would prefer less blur. What I am thinking would be to crop the bottom of the picture some to still have the story of the movement and jump, but a higher percentage of the image clear.   Posted: 07/17/2024 20:39:56

Adi - I love this image - the monochrome treatment is right on. All images do not have to sharp and this is one.   Posted: 07/18/2024 14:05:11
