Bandon Beach Sunset by Stan Bormann, FPSA, MPSA

July 2024 - Bandon Beach Sunset

About the Image(s)

In my opinion Bandon Beach and Canon Beach are the two best places to spend a few nights on the Oregon Coast and you should try to get a room right at the top of the hill down to the beach. This shot is from down on the beach apparently at near high tide. Shot at ISO 640, 21mm, f/8, 1/1000 sec at EV -1.7 with a Canon 7D and Canon 15-85 lens. The fast shutter stopped the wave action, a slow shutter could have smoothed the water.

I think you have a really good image and a way to remember your trip. Is it possible to get a little more detail in the water and reflections of the rocks? Just a thought.   Posted: 07/07/2024 15:18:58

Hi Stan,
I think this is a wonderful night seascape. You've captured the sunset just at the right time. I also like your using a fast shutter to stop the wave action--to me at least it gives a `you are there' feeling. My only suggestion would be to see how the image looks if you lighten the shadows a bit...especially at the base of both rocks.

The sun is neatly hidden behind the appealing rock formation. Some nice colour in the sky. I appreciate that you have tried to keep all of the rock reflection, but I wonder if a crop from the base might improve the composition.   Posted: 07/13/2024 08:43:35

Lovely silhouette of rocks and their reflection against a colorful sunset. The streak of white line adds interest to the sky.   Posted: 07/15/2024 16:46:01

Stan - the composition of your image is good; but maybe you could see if you can coax some detail in the shadows.   Posted: 07/18/2024 13:44:17

Stan This is another well done execution of beautiful photography you do. This is not the first seascape shot you shared with us. The crop as ell adds to the picture a lot. Nicely done !
