About the Image(s)

Violinist in Grand Central Terminal

This violinist was photographed in Grand Central Terminal in NYC. Aside from his wonderful music I was captivated by the joy & concentration the musician displayed while playing. I originally took the photo in color but converted it to monochrome because I thought it better captured the musician’s intensity ??” while helping to block out the colors of the area of the station where the violinist was situated. The blur in his bow hand was intentional since I wanted some sense of motion??”therefore the 1/125th shutter speed.

As always, comments & suggestions are welcome.

This is a strong black and white portrait that shows the feeling and energy of a live music performance. The person's expression and body position help connect with the viewer, and the movement of the bow adds a sense of motion.   Posted: 04/16/2026 20:34:42

A competent portrait of the musician. I like the choice of monochrome. The blur shows that this is a performance rather than a posed picture. The musicians expression shows both joy and concentration.   Posted: 04/18/2026 09:55:23
