About the Image(s)
Recently I was fortunate enough to travel to Iceland. And luckily for me one night the northern lights were visible to my camera (although hardly visible to the naked eye!). This Lighthouse is on a peninsula near the capitol of Reykjavik. The lighthouse was built in 1907-1908 and stands 69 meters above sea level although the lighthouse itself is 26 meters tall. The image was made at about midnight. My goal was to capture the night sky

Bravo. This is a great image and if I am a judge, award winning. I think the decision to place the lighthouse and its ground low in the composition is well done. You have enough of the aurora and the stars to make for an interesting sky. Luck you, luck us.   Posted: 03/04/2025 18:56:18
Thanks Jay. I appreciate your kind words!

Hi Norm,
Stunning image! You managed to capture the magnificence of the aurora borealis. The lighthouse is positioned well to balance the scene. I like the different green tones of the sky. Well done!   Posted: 03/14/2025 17:28:24

Thanks Mel. It was certainly worth being out there on a cold & windy night!

I like this a lot, the right place at the right time. The composition with the lighthouse works perfectly. Well done.   Posted: 03/18/2025 13:50:24

The northern lights through the clouds result in a unique image. Using the lighthouse as the foreground object is very appropriate and I like it, but let me mention a technique we learned at the Portland Maine Conference, When taking a pictue wikth a lighthouse at night, use a ripod and get something black you can use to block light getting to the camea from the lighthouse, then you cover the lens everytime the light comes toward the camera except perhaps once. You adjust the exposure by countinig the revolutions until it gets an exposre that you like. When we did it there my exposure was 56 seconds which probably meant hat about 30 was the real exposure except that exposure of the light was only a few seconds.   Posted: 03/30/2025 22:58:14
Thanks Stan. Great suggestion. Norm   Posted: 03/31/2025 15:31:18
Great composition as always.
My only thought is the white balance. The green tone is too strong in the foreground, in my view. Maybe a local correction will do the trick.
