Hudson Yards, NYC by Norm Solomon

February 2025 - Hudson Yards, NYC

About the Image(s)

I took this photo recently at Hudson Yards* because I was fascinated by the way the skyscraper angles `fit’ with the mid-day sun. I wanted the distorted effect that an uncorrected wide angle image would provide. I stopped the lens down to F16 to get the `star burst’ effect. I converted the image to monochrome in Nik Silver Efex because I felt the image would have more impact emphasizing shape, light and shadow rather than color.

Nikon Z50, 16-24 DX lens @ 16mm (35mm equivalent is 24mm) 1/250 F16 ISO 560

* Hudson Yards is the name for the `overnight terminus ’ for many NYC subway trains. The area around the yards has also been a hive of activity for a number of years now with the opening of the adjacent Highline Urban Park that parallels the Hudson River. With the extension of a major subway line to Hudson Yards the area has become a sought after area for both commercial and residential customers??”hence the relatively new construction.

Thanks for looking. Comments & suggestions are welcome as always.

Fantastic sun star and edit. This makes a great street photography as well as architectural and arguably travel photo as well. VERY nicely done.

Very dramatic with the sun burst. I like the fact that it is in monochrome.   Posted: 02/15/2025 11:06:11
