Rick Napping by Glenn Rudd

July 2024 - Rick Napping

About the Image(s)

This image , "Rick Napping", was taken January 2024 during my Workshop at D-Spur Ranch in Gold Canyon AZ. Over a three-day period, we were presented with many fine opportunities to photograph Cowboys, Cowgirls, Horses, Longhorn cattle, and Re-enactors.
On the second day, the wranglers worked from 6:00 AM until dark. I caught Rick catching a little nap during a lull in the action.
Technical: Nikon Z9, 1/1600 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1600, 100mm.

What a wonderful opportunity to spend three days at the ranch.
A terrific portrait of a tired cowboy at the end of a long day. I hope you enter this in a competition sometime.   Posted: 07/04/2024 08:42:26

A well caught moment during your Workshop. Well exposed and neatly cropped.   Posted: 07/12/2024 12:07:21

Very interesting subject. I find my eye going to the large chaps (?) he is wearing - (they are brighter than the rest of cowboy and take a lot of space) - rather than his body and face. I would consider darkening them, and brightening his upper body to help him stand out from the tree. The crop is very tight, perhaps necessary to eliminate other distractions, but if not - adding more especially on the left would help to provide context.   Posted: 07/12/2024 12:11:02

Great photo of a napping cowboy. The lighting looks great with no harsh shadows, colors are vibrant, composition is a little tight, but I don't know what you were competing with on the left side of frame. The chaps are a bit of an eye-catcher, perhaps too much.   Posted: 07/13/2024 01:00:07

I really like this capture of a cowboy napping! The whiter edge of the left side of the chap could be darkened some but I would change anything else.   Posted: 07/13/2024 11:26:55
