Stones and storm by John Hackett

August 2026 - Stones and storm

About the Image(s)

In the North of England, on a day of mixed weather. I was driving along looking for pictures when I was intrigued by the incoming rain and the stones of the moorland.

Beautiful composition, the clouds act as a light diffuser for the rocks and the ground. What parameters did you use in the camera?   Posted: 08/10/2026 03:12:21

Very dramatic photo. Do you consider the sky the subject of the image? If so, I'd consider toning down the foreground and increasing contrast in the sky to bring more focus there.   Posted: 08/12/2026 21:29:16

Wow! Amazing image, you can feel it's coming towards you!!!
I think I will crop half of the grass area and highlight bits and pieces of lighter parts of the big cloud on the top right.   Posted: 08/12/2026 22:57:08

The drama of this image emphasized by the clouds. As Martha mentioned, I would crop some of the bottom, it is not the focal point, I don't believe. Also, you might want to tone down some of the white areas in the clouds, particularly the white in the middle. Overall a great landscape photo with compelling clouds.   Posted: 08/13/2026 19:10:36

Very nice landscape photo with lots of drama. I agree with Sheldon's comments on cropping and adding contrast. In addition. I suggest reducing exposure on the remaining foreground to emphasize the sky.   Posted: 08/15/2026 12:55:34

Great landscape and doing it in B&W makes promotes the ominous of the clouds coming in. I do recommend darkening the brighter center cloud. As for the land, it's a tough call. Maybe a 33% cut from the bottom.   Posted: 08/16/2026 00:04:37
