Quiet Refuge by Suzanne Daunt

July 2026 - Quiet Refuge

About the Image(s)

Quiet Refuge, was shot in San Antonio last November with a Nikon Z8, 105mm focal length, f/4.5, 1/200s, and ISO 100. I cropped the image in quite a bit to focus attention on the subject and enhanced colors and lighting on the subject. Nothing was removed as I am considering entering it for the New Braunfels Club's Photojournalism assignment. Please let me know how I can improve this image.

Very nice image. The only recommendation I would make is to crop in from the right. I think that would focus interest on the subject - you don't need all the bench. If you are running out of pixels, maybe one of the adobe or plug in expanders could help.   Posted: 07/01/2026 17:03:50

Thanks Shelton. I was reluctant to chop off part of the bench because I've been scored down in PSA for not showing the entire seat/bench.   Posted: 07/03/2026 23:56:19

I've judged at local and state wide competitions. I wouldn't have scored you down-probably up a point if cropped.   Posted: 07/08/2026 19:51:03

This is a good capture. I would just dull the white of the coffee cup some.   Posted: 07/09/2026 01:26:13

Really good picture. Did the man happened to be there or was he posing as a model? I guess I would only straighten the image a little bit and also crop it somewhat from the right to focus more on the subject, it is a shame the you get penalized for doing so.   Posted: 07/09/2026 02:55:43

He was not a model, just someone I came across. I will crop. It does look tilted, but I used the building as my reference. The bench is at an angle, but I agree it looks goofy. Thanks for your input. It is very helpful!   Posted: 07/09/2026 22:21:36
