About the Image(s)

in 2019 I visited a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) area in Dugway, Utah. On this Federally owned land there are 3 large groups of wild horses. We encountered one herd at a water hole and I was fortunate to capture this beautiful mustang in the first 10 minutes. Subsequently, we followed the herd to a second location and spent 3 hours just mingling, observing, and photographing typical horse behavior. It was a privileged and emotional experience.
Technical: 1/800 sec, f/8.0, ISO320, 200 mm.

This is a great shot of the horse's expression - which you don't see often. Very well captured! The lighting on the horse (including white areas) and catch light in the eye is impressive; however, the dark mane looks like it could use some contrast. I would crop a tiny bit from the right. Beautiful image!!   Posted: 07/04/2026 00:14:15

Great composition, sharpness and subject. Was it windy or the horse running? The wild mane adds to the photo. Dark areas on top of his (her?) head and lower left corner appear blocked. Perhaps add just a bit of exposure there, or decrease contrast a bit overall.   Posted: 07/08/2026 20:00:35

I agree with Suzanne and Sheldon's comments on the dark mane. Really good capture of the horse.   Posted: 07/09/2026 01:35:31

Great expression of the horse. I may be wrong but probably this time I would have tried to take some more of the landscape to the right to compensate for the animalīs head.   Posted: 07/09/2026 03:18:49
