Grand Canyon Morning by Joe Norcott

April 2026 - Grand Canyon Morning

About the Image(s)

This is a Grand Canyon Morning. The sun had just risen above the horizon. Had a great time at the Grand Canyon. I still have many photos to process. ISO 100, f/6.3, 1/320s. Camera: Nikon Z6 VIII, 28mm using 17-28mm wide angle lens.

Its truly a remarkable place. I'm fortunate to live only a three hour drive away. Arizona has wonderful landscapes - I'll be at a workshop in Monument Valley tomorrow. Nice use of vegetation to create foreground interest. Nice composition with foreground, midground and background. I think the image would benefit from increased vibrance (lightroom speak) to bring out the different colors in the canyon, and perhaps selectively brighten the area in the lower right corner that looks blocked on my screen.   Posted: 04/16/2026 00:27:27

Thanks Sheldon for the ideas. I had trouble brightening the area on the lower right. But I think this is better.   Posted: 04/19/2026 00:29:08

This is an incredible looking area. Capturing it must be a challenge. Personally I would of liked to see a bit more of the colours in the rock, I have never been there and can only comment based on other pictures I have seen.   Posted: 04/18/2026 09:16:44

I changed the photo and attached it to Sheldon's comment. Is this better with the increase of color?   Posted: 04/19/2026 00:30:22

Yes Joe, The increase in colour saturation does help.   Posted: 04/19/2026 08:13:15
