Simply Sushi by Suzanne Daunt

April 2026 - Simply Sushi

About the Image(s)

Simply Sushi, as the name implies, was my attempt at still life (which was the assignment for another photo club). I'm not very adept at still life, but I can take a picture of my lunch. This image was shot with a Nikon Z8, 97mm focal length, 1/100s, f/3.5, ISO 400. Post processing consisted of lightening the background, which was already pretty white, and enhancing the colors a bit. Other than that, it was pretty simple, and yes, I did eat the sushi after taking the shot!

Very nice. The shadow at the bottom is critical, without it the sushi would just be hanging in the air. The negative space on the right helps emphasize the subject, but maybe crop a little of it out. I'm impressed by your discipline. I would have eaten the sushi before the shot was set up.   Posted: 04/16/2026 00:15:02

Thanks for your input Sheldon. You're right, I should crop out a bit on the right. Trust me, the sushi was eaten shortly after taking this shot! It isn't often I get to eat my photo subjects!   Posted: 04/16/2026 15:41:53

Oh so simple yet very well taken and presented. Perfect position in the frame. Nice and sharp and the shadow is perfect.   Posted: 04/18/2026 09:08:06

I like the photo but here's and idea. Why not duplicate it on the right facing toward the center. Now the takes away from all the white and looks more delicious.   Posted: 04/18/2026 11:56:03

Do you mean two opposing pieces of sushi facing each other? That's a very clever idea! I would also need to mirror the reflection. Now you're stretching my Photoshop skills to the limit. I will need to watch more YouTubes. Thanks Joe!   Posted: 04/18/2026 18:03:58

Yes a mirror of the sushi would do it. Good luck! I don't know how to do it but it would be fun to do.   Posted: 04/18/2026 23:52:31
