King Vulture by Glenn Rudd

December 2025 - King Vulture

About the Image(s)

In November 2017, I attended a photography workshop in Costa Rica. Our first venue was in the coastal rain forest near the border of Nicaragua. Close to our lodge a shooting blind was set up and meat treats were strategically placed in an open field to attract the vultures. This handsome guy presented a nice portrait view showing off his beautiful grey neck feathers and colorful beak.
Technical: 1/400 sec, f/7.1, ISO 1000, 500mm.

Very interesting bird. I like the composition, cropping the bottom and back of the bird out, I'll have to try that next time. The eye staring straight out of the picture at me grabs my attention and keeps it there. Good sharpness and toning, and the blur works well.

Beautiful image of the King Vulture! I saw these amazing creatures for the first time last March in Costa Rica on a photo birding trip. The sharpness of the bird and soft background keep my attention on the subject. The whites are not blown out and the texture is amazing. Compositions is great! I wouldn't change a thing - fabulous photo!   Posted: 12/13/2025 15:47:53

What colours and textures. A magnificent bird well portrayed. I like the crop you have given to the picture.   Posted: 12/16/2025 13:50:47
