Green-crowned Brilliant Hummingbird by Glenn Rudd

July 2025 - Green-crowned Brilliant Hummingbird

About the Image(s)

I traveled to Costa Rica in 2017 to photograph birds. Our group visited three different venues: Coastal Forest, Rain Forest, and the high altitude Cloud Forest. This beautiful hummingbird image was captured at the Bosque de Paz lodge in the Cloud Forest venue.
Technical: 1/160 sec, f/10, ISO 200, 420mm, Flash.

Really nice. The black background allows you to focus on the hummingbird.   Posted: 07/11/2025 00:45:08

I think you have captured this well as the bird approaches the flower head. Great colour and the subject is perfectly sharp. I like the fack you have got the wings on the downbeat.   Posted: 07/12/2025 09:27:36

Excellent shot! Capturing hummingbirds is still a pending task in my to-do activities as an amateur photographer.   Posted: 07/12/2025 21:34:52

Great photo of hummingbird in flight - that's not easy and the sharpness looks great. I shot lots of hummingbirds in Costa Rica this past March and I can appreciate the challenge -they are fast moving little creatures. The black background enhances the beautiful colors of the bird and the flower. The only thing I might suggest is cropping out the red leaf in the lower right corner. Great shot!   Posted: 07/15/2025 01:10:40

Gorgeous image of this Green-crowned Brilliant Hummingbird, beautiful details and colours all over the hummingbird and the flower.   Posted: 07/15/2025 06:55:00

Very colorful and good eye focus. One suggestion, which has more to do with the presentation than the picture. On my display, the black background in the photo isn't distinguishable from the black background surrounding the photo. As a result, the composition appears out of balance - even though I suspect it isn't. Putting a thin white stroke around the picture would clearly separate the photo from the black screen background and I think help the presentation. As I think about it, I probably should have done the same thing for the picture I submitted this month.   Posted: 07/28/2025 02:52:12
