Remote Phone Box by John Hackett

March 2025 - Remote Phone Box

About the Image(s)

The picture probably does not show the remoteness of this Telephone Box in the Highlands of Scotland. At the time I took the picture it was still a time when not everyone had a mobile(cell)phone. I liked the fact that the red colour was so faded.

My first job was with the Bell System - there was a group responsible for design and engineering of pay phones. I doubt they still exist. I wonder if the sense of remoteness would have been enhanced by taking a wider view and showing more of the countryside.   Posted: 03/14/2025 12:43:56

I think you chose a great spot to take that picture. It make me feel as if the telephone box was the only contact with the outside world. I agree with Sheldon that probably the photo could have been taken from farther away to enhance the sensation of loneliness.   Posted: 03/14/2025 16:57:12

Oh I think the remoteness comes through. I also like the faded red as it accentuates the age of this bygone relic. Composition is good with the open fields adding to the feel that you are way out in the country. Depending upon how wide angle of a lens you had, it might have been interesting to include more of the road (adding to the remoteness), but still include the open fields, if possible.   Posted: 03/16/2025 15:33:23

It seems in the middle of nowhere, so isolated, great capture!!!   Posted: 03/20/2025 05:44:27

The remoteness makes this standout and unique. Now I know where you can have a private conversation! :)   Posted: 03/23/2025 14:16:15
