Phonograph by Carlos Roman

February 2025 - Phonograph

About the Image(s)

I took this picture at a flea market. I decided it was a good idea to highlight the phonograph?s sound horn by making the background black and white and increasing the intensity of the blue color. I think the composition emphasizes the elegance of the apparatus in the middle of the general chaos of the site.

Technical details.

Camera: Canon EOS 1500D

ISO -200

F point: f/14

Shutter speed: 1/30 s.

Interesting photo of an antique. I like the foreground, background layers that give depth to the photo. For me the selective colorization is a bit much. Perhaps decrease saturation, or do as a monochrome and emphasize the horn by brightness/contrast or blurring the background.   Posted: 02/12/2025 18:02:29

I like this photo of an antique and your choices of color and monochrome to emphasize the phonograph. I agree with Sheldon that the saturation could be reduced a bit.   Posted: 02/13/2025 20:28:03

What a great idea. Your decision to leave the Phonograph trumpet in colour and the rest of the picture in monochrome makes it stand out. I should imagine the colours in the background would be quite distracting. Maybe blur the background a touch as Sheldon suggests.   Posted: 02/14/2025 10:03:29

The B&W of the remainder of the photo gives an emphasis on the age of phonograph. Very well done.   Posted: 02/16/2025 01:45:32

It must be a huge phonograph horn?? And, yes I think your latest version in B/W looks better.   Posted: 02/17/2025 06:41:37

This image really pops with the blue contrasting from the black & white. I really like the artistic effect this creates. The image is still sharp though it was shot at 1/30s - well done. I would have opened the aperture more to get a blurred background and increase the shutter speed. Very cool approach to this picture.   Posted: 02/18/2025 15:09:05
