Bright Angel Park by Martha Aguero

November 2024 - Bright Angel Park

About the Image(s)

On Wednesday I usually walk with a group in the Cowichan Valley, and in this occasion we went to Bright Angel Park.
One of my favourite themes Fall Colours, I take this picture with my Sony RX10 a bridge camera, with the following settings: ISO 320, Lenses at 23 mm; F /7.1 at 1/100 of a sec.

Edited in Camera Raw with the basics, trying to pop up the fall colours, reflections on the water and its contrasty around it.

Hi Martha, Really colorful branches help to offset the rest of the photo. My eyes go to the leaves and then explore the rest of the photo. Great focus/sharpness of the leaves and out across to the other side of the river.   Posted: 11/16/2024 00:12:38

Beautiful photo. I like how you planned the composition, with the dark trunk at the foreground contrasting with the colorful leaves at the back. I donīt know if you consciously applied the rule of thirds but the tree fits very well in the frame. The reflection of the branches in the water is also very appealing.   Posted: 11/16/2024 15:52:21

Thanks Carlos, probably I applied the rule of thirds, but usually my final composition I do it while editing, by cropping or enlarging the area I found more interesting.   Posted: 11/20/2024 01:31:17

Very nice. I like the way the tree frames the leaves and far side of the stream. A couple of suggestions. On my screen the tree trunk on the left goes to solid black. Perhaps brighten that part of the picture a little so that there is just a hint of detail on the trunk. I also wonder if a lower shooting angle would have included more of the golden leaves in the picture.   Posted: 11/17/2024 17:33:47

Thanks Sheldon, in this new version, I have lighted up a little bit the trunk area and part of the leaves on the bottom of the trunk. For next time I will consider to shoot from a lower angle. Good point.   Posted: 11/20/2024 02:30:02

A great subject well-captured. I agree with Sheldon on the tree trunk and the shooting angle.   Posted: 11/18/2024 02:16:48

One gets a wonderful autumnal feel from this picture. A simple scene but effective. I like the way the branches and trunk of the foreground tree frame the scene. The reflections are nice in the still waters on the other side of the river. I like the hint of detail in the bottom left as the trunk goes into shadow.   Posted: 11/18/2024 15:21:40
