Last month, I had the opportunity to visit the Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa, CA. They have a small but impressive collection of old warbirds and other military aircraft in various states of decay and/or restoration. I found myself taking a lot of up-close detail images of the various aircraft including this side panel of a Sikorsky SH-60F helicopter that was used by a Navy Search and Rescue team out of Fallon NAS in Nevada. I cropped in a bit to emphasize the logo as well as the interesting (at least to me) rivet patterns.
Sony A7R V, Tamron 28-200 lens.
ISO 125, 109mm, f/14, 1/400 seconds. Shot handheld.

Henry: I think it takes a good eye to single out images such as this one. There are probably a dozen interesting rivet patterns in this shot. The deep blacks of the logo give the image some nice contrast. The image is nicely exposed with no blown out highlights. A really nice image. Posted: 08/08/2026 20:50:09
Hi Henry: The rivet patterns also intrigue me. The mechanical engineers that laid out the rivet patterns were very exacting in their work, as well as the rivet people.
Composed very well, everything balances well in the scene, then your monochrome conversion is just the right shade of monochrome. Good work!

Hey Henry. Another piece of history rarely seen and explained. I like the B&W conversion as the contrast is great and all of that rivet detail really stands out in your processing. Nice. Posted: 08/09/2026 20:32:03
