About the Image(s)

I think this is a Moskvitch (Moskvich), almost certainly a Moskvitch 401 (or possibly the very similar 400).
The Moskvitch 400 was built in the Soviet Union beginning in 1946.
It was based almost directly on the pre-war Opel Kadett K38. After World War II, the Soviet Union acquired the tooling and production equipment from Opel's factory in Germany as war reparations.
The improved Moskvitch 401 followed in 1954 with a more powerful engine, but externally the two models are very difficult to distinguish.

Sharp subject, good photo angle and composition, perhaps add a little contrast. The car stands out from the leaves more in the color version.

Hi Peter: A very good subject that lent itself well to a very good monochrome conversion.

This picture is a good story telling image with many years of fallen leaves piled up over the rear of this old car.

The original color version is not to be discounted, the autumn scene makes a good backdrop for the old car.   Posted: 07/09/2026 15:42:05

Hey Peter, a timely image on several accounts. Not only the vintage car but the fact it is partially covered with all of those leaves gives the image a sense of time and place.   Posted: 07/11/2026 12:33:27

Peter,
This is wonderful. I've shooting old derelict cars myself and especially like to see how they interact with their environment. The fallen leaves give the impression of a car emerging from the earth. The monochrome processing helps with the illusion.   Posted: 07/11/2026 18:42:50
