About the Image(s)

My wife and I joined a group of camera club members on a weekend visit to the Palouse region of Washington State last month. We were there most for night/Milky Way photography but we took the opportunity to wander around the area visiting old haunts as well as discovering some new subjects. We were in the little farming town of Garfield when I found myself staring at the local grain elevator picking out details with a zoom lens. I liked this mix of shapes and textures, especially after I converted it to black and white. Processing was mostly done in Lightroom Classic where I did the cropping, straightening, the conversion and a bit of exposure adjustment. I then took it into Photoshop for some cleanup.
Sony A7R VI, Sony 70-200 f4 macro. ISO 200, 182mm, f/16, 1/200 second. Shot handheld.

This is all about repitition and texture. Sharp, well toned, good composition. B&W doesn't look all that much different from color.   Posted: 07/08/2026 22:56:05

Hi Henry: A good job of seeing this composition possibility and turning it into an interesting picture of geometric design.

You have cropped some from the top to clean up distractions. There is a white window sill above the various roof angles and near the very top of the frame. To me this item does not fit in well with the scheme of things.   Posted: 07/11/2026 04:19:53

Hey Henry, nice contrast of shapes. Namely round vs. straight. I agree with previous posts to crop out some items. In fact if you cropped in closer to yield only the silos and vertical walls and a wider tonal range that these changes would make the image "pop" more.   Posted: 07/11/2026 12:42:02
