About the Image(s)

This photo was taken a short time ago at a church in San Miguel de Allende Mexico. I took the usual photo straight up the dome but found this one taken from off to the side to be more interesting. Sony A7R5, 1/200 at f5.0, 32mm, iso 2000. Edited in Lightroom Classic.

Sheldon, Your image has a lot of interesting detail in it. It holds the viewer's attention. the symmetrical composition is great. The elements below the dome all lead the eye up to the dome which is the center of interest. Some might say that the windows are blown out, but I know from experience that unless you blend multiple exposures (shooting on a tripod) the windows will be blown out. The image is still very nice.   Posted: 04/10/2026 20:49:28

Hi Sheldon: A very impressive church which made a very interesting monochrome conversion with very strong design elements. The monochrome conversion carries a lot of impact, and I also like the muted soft tones of your original.

From a composition standpoint I feel the upper dome is a little tight in the frame at the sides, needs a little more breathing room. As I was not there I don't know what kind of photographic constraints you may have had in making this photo.   Posted: 04/13/2026 05:26:11

Sheldon,
The composition was well chosen. I like the way the chandelier and its chain lead the eye up into the dome. Processing was excellent.   Posted: 04/13/2026 17:52:35

Hey Sheldon, great geometry and perspective; very unique! I agree with Charles that different exposures would have held the light back from the windows. Otherwise I really like it!   Posted: 04/13/2026 21:05:29
