About the Image(s)

This was taken during our trip to Spain two years ago. We took a day trip from Madrid to the medieval city of Segovia. One of the town's most famous features is this almost intact Roman aqueduct. I shot this structure from a variety of angles. This was one of my favorites.
I did a bit of geometry correction and cropping, monochrome conversion, and basic exposure adjustments in Lightroom Classic, then took it into Photoshop where I used the Remove tool and generative fill to remove most of the people and other distractions.
Sony A7R5, Tamron 28-200 lens. ISO 400, 33mm, f/13, 1/160 second. Shot handheld.

This is a nice perspective shot, Henry. Nice work with the Removal tool. I might try two things: crop the building on the left out so all you see is the aqueduct, and give it more contrast. It's amazing how well preserved that structure is.   Posted: 04/10/2026 21:00:59

Thanks, Charles. Good point about the building on the left. I wanted to give the aqueduct a bit of context but perhaps that was more than it needed. You are right about the contrast.   Posted: 04/13/2026 18:09:05

Hi Henry: The original has very high contrast lighting, in your monochrome conversion you have evened out the lighting very well, really good post processing work.
Also you have removed many distractions at the lower left to make the building more presentable. To me the buildings in the background seen between the pillars on the right bothers me more than the building at the left.

I have a lot of respect for those early craftsman that built these structures, they did not have all of the modern equipment we have today and they built some amazing cathedrals through out Europe.

Thanks, Murphy. I like the building in the background, but I'll have to think about ways to minimize them.
The workmanship was awe-inspiring.   Posted: 04/13/2026 18:10:40

Henry, nice conversion given the original! It is unfortunate that sometimes we just can't get a clean shot of our subject. I don't know if there was more aqueduct to the right but if there was I would try a hand held horizontal pano and then stitch in software and then you might have isolated better. But we all know when we travel we face limitations. Like it otherwise as a nice documentary piece-what craftsmanship to be still standing!   Posted: 04/13/2026 21:32:53

I agree with other's comments. Especially brightening the aqueduct given the original image. The sky works very well. I'd consider selecting the aqueduct, and if you are using Lightroom, increase texture, and maybe dehaze.   Posted: 04/15/2026 23:52:06
