About the Image(s)

On our yearly walk on New Year’s Eve I saw this lady with her dog sitting on a free place selling her magazine. Smoking, well dressed in the cold. I took a picture with not so much concentration, because I didn’t had the lens for this scene. I want to decide at home, if the crop would be good and I was suprised. Later I tried it to convert it into monochrome.

Canon R5, Ap 8, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 640. Sigma lens 24-70 at 70mm.

Great street photography. I feel cold just looking at it. I looked up the magazine she was selling https://www.asphalt-magazin.de/. We have similar street newspapers in the US, but in my experience, the vendors aren't as well dressed. My only comment would be to try and separate the vendor from the people in the background (other photographers I believe) by using selective blur or brightness.

Hi Peter,
You picked a nice "moment" to capture the scene. I like your processing and your framing. The fact that everyone around your subject seems to be packing a camera is interesting but not necessarily helpful. I don't know what your philosophy is about how much editing is OK, but you might want to play with the newer AI tools to remove the other people from the scene to reduce clutter and to better focus the eye on your main subject.   Posted: 12/08/2025 17:43:10

Hi Peter: You have done major cropping on all sides of the image, in doing so you have eliminated large parts of buildings, then foreground and also extra people in the scene, and basically just tightened up the composition a lot.

The vendor person close in and to the right becomes the main center of interest and a good character study. Then we have a number of bicycles to the left with a few people in the distance.

The shops in the background complete the picture. A very fine street scene, and the monochrome conversion looks good to me.   Posted: 12/09/2025 03:46:14

Hi Peter: I Find your image to be an interesting "street photography" scene. The mono conversion worked well; good tonal values and contrast. I also would try to remove the man directly behind the vendor lady. The others to the right don't bother me as much. I might also consider trying to remove the signs behind her. Photoshop's Removal tool should work well for that. The crop works well. Overall, I think it's a very good image.   Posted: 12/10/2025 15:55:12
