About the Image(s)
We went to an old power plant that's been shut down for many years. It was a treasure trove of stuff you can photograph. I saw this socket but what drew me to it was how the light coming from the window was shining on it. I used ISO 3200 at f/7.1 and 1/50sec. I took it in color but it's so much better in black and white. The textures just all come out.

I love the grittiness of the image. The centered outlet feels like eyes staring out at me. Shadow from top right, bottom left into the center is a great leading line. Great use of tonal range, from black to nearly white.

Hi Nenette,
Good for you for seeing an image in something most of us would just pass by. This is the sort of minimalism I like: seemingly simplistic while it reveals more detail upon closer inspection. I agree that black and white is the best choice for this.   Posted: 12/08/2025 18:01:57

Hi Nenette: There is a statement in photography "Less is More" and that describes this picture well.
I like the strong diagonal shadows that originate from the lower left to the upper right, they make a strong graphic statement.
You have a lot of tonality in this picture, everything from black to very very light gray in the upper left.
Henry is correct in that many photographers would walk by this scene, but you found it.

Hi Nenette: You have a good eye for spotting this image and the conversion brings out nice contrast and texture. My only suggestion (and it's just a personal opinion) would be to crop it a bit more so that it becomes a more longer and narrow composition, and try to bring a bit more detail into the lower right-hand corner of the outlet box.   Posted: 12/10/2025 16:16:40
