About the Image(s)
My wife and I spent several days recently at Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast. We splurged and stayed at a hotel right on the beach with a spectacular view of the Haystack, a well-known local landmark. On our final morning, just before we started loading up the car, we looked to our right and found wonderful wisps of fog obscuring the bluffs around Ecola State Park. I managed to take a few shots including this one. The image was largely monochromatic to begin with, so making a full conversion seemed a no-brainer. There wasn't much going at the top and bottom of the frame, so I did a 16x9 crop. I did the black and white conversion as well as exposure processing in Lightroom Classic and cleaned up some sensor spots in Photoshop. I also removed the last bit of the balcony roof that was still in the frame.
Sony A7RV, Sony 70-200 f/4 macro lens, ISO 125, 140mm, f/11, 1/125 second. Shot handheld.

In the original I like the green grass on the ridgeline to the right, and then the two beach hikers near the bottom of the frame slightly to the right add scale. You can barely make them out through the morning fog.
The monochrome shows good depth from the two sea stacks at the bottom right out to the many sea stacks in the distance to the left of the frame. The morning fog through out the scene adds a lot of mood. I like the 16X9 crop as it fits this beach scene well. Good job of seeing !!   Posted: 07/05/2025 23:23:37
