About the Image(s)
This was taken in Bar Harbor, Maine in the summer of 2024. It rained heavily that morning but cleared in mid-afternoon. As the sun started setting, people flocked to one side of the harbor to watch the sunset. This is the other side, quieter with lesser people, and this lady took advantage of that, sitting alone by the dock, watching the crab boats already anchored for the end of the day.
I took this in color and converted to black and white. I also cropped the image to show less of the sky and water, to focus more on the lady and these clustered boats.

This is wonderful, Nenette! Putting the woman at the bottom center of the frame gives her prominence even though she is a small part of the overall picture. Having the three boats all face the same way creates a "rule of threes" element to the image which contrasts nicely with the large four masted ship and the smaller boat on the right. Your crop works well and monochrome was the perfect choice here. Well-done all around!   Posted: 03/12/2025 12:11:41

I love the composition, especially the layers of near, mid and far that give the image a 3D effect. I'm curious to know what increasing contrast would do. I'm not sure it would be an improvement - just curious.   Posted: 03/14/2025 12:30:05
Thank you Sheldon. I did play around with the contrast a bit, and blending until I got just the right balance in my view. I didn't want the trees or the dock to be too dark as I still wanted to see some definition.   Posted: 03/15/2025 10:28:05
