The Morning Catch by Nenette Yu

February 2025 - The Morning Catch

About the Image(s)

I took this photo 2 years ago. I was staying with family in a mountain resort in the Philippines. I woke up early one morning and decided to step out to the balcony. There were so many of these insects dangling in a line like little curtains. I realized that they were being harvested by yet another insect or spiders. It was pretty amazing to see these insects at work trying to pull the dead ones somewhere for breakfast.

I used a Canon R5, ISO 640, f/8 at 1/400 sec. I took this in color and converted to black and white.

Wow, what is that for a kind of insect? AM I right if I locate four preys at a time? It takes time to find out what's happened. This is a very strong story. Sharp enough. My only suggetion would be to lighted up the flys if possible. Even the body of the insect may be a bit lighter. Big photo, congrats!   Posted: 02/15/2025 04:45:07

Hi Peter. I am not sure what types of insects these are but there are 4 preys and the stick insect is the live one. Thank you for your feedback and I will try out your suggestion.   Posted: 02/16/2025 03:02:13

Remarkable capture, Nenette! Not too many people would think to capture an image like this but you did and it's an impressive image. I do agree with Peter that you could lighten it a bit to bring out more detail, but that's a judgment call.   Posted: 02/16/2025 00:49:35

Hello Henry. Thank you very much for the feedback. I will try out the suggestion to lighten the insects a bit and see how it goes. BTW, I'm glad to be part of this study group. Looks like a great one and lots of great feedback.   Posted: 02/16/2025 03:03:28
