About the Image(s)

One of our favorite destinations each fall is Washington State's Tumwater Canyon. The Wenatchee River flows down the east side of the Cascades on its way to the Columbia River. Come fall, there are lots of brilliant color on both sides of the river, but I've found it rewarding to consider the river itself, particularly as it flows around the many rocks and other obstructions. My eye was drawn to the little circle of rocks and decided to put on a strong ND filter and make an extremely long exposure. I think it makes for an interesting abstract image.
Sony A7R V, Sony 24-105 lens. ISO 100, 105mm, f/10, 30 seconds. Shot with a tripod. Processing done in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. Used Silver Efex to do conversion along with finish work in On1 Effects.

Well done, Henry! I would have chosen similar recording parameters. I suppose, you have a ND 64? Very good light and shadows. The structure of the stones is perfect. No suggestions, big shot!   Posted: 01/09/2025 00:32:03

Thanks, Peter. It was a 6-stop ND filter.   Posted: 01/17/2025 17:14:29

Henry, I think this is an outstanding image. Like it that there is an odd number of very sharp rocks and the very slow shutter speed really makes it. Monochrome is certainly a better choice than color in this case. Well done.   Posted: 01/13/2025 16:18:05
