Photograph taken at Oregon Cannon Beach with iPhone. I edited in Photoshop using basic camera raw adjustments, added a slight vignette and dodged image foreground.

Yvonne... overall this is a very nice image but I have a few suggestions.
1. The sunset is oversaturated, which distracts from the other cool stuff in the photo.
2. You have some nice leading lines in the foreground that should be highlighted.

Bruce, Thank you for sharing your edits. I'm going to play with sharpening the seagull and foreground. Similar to your suggestions I initially experimented wth different shades of the sunset and rocks. I preferred the dark silhouette which spoke to the evening. Posted: 08/11/2026 14:18:55

Being a Birding photographer, I love the image you've created. You have captured every element envied for a compelling photograph. The rock formations; colorful sky and sun; reflection of the water and texture of the sand; and the wide crop of the bird in the center. Everything is perfectly exposed. Yvonne, I love this picture! Sunset and water, I can almost hear the waves gently lapping at the shore. The lone seagull immediately catches the eye.
A wonderful sense of peace washes over me as I gaze upon this marvelous scene.
Unlike Bruce, I like the sunset as it appears in the picture. Sunsets are always a bit kitschy, aren't they? They're allowed to be so excessively colorful. (That's just my personal opinion-as a woman? As a romantic?)
I agree with Bruce, the seagull needs to be more in focus. This could be achieved with the dodge tool or perhaps by cropping the image differently.

Sabine... I like this crop better since it draws attention to the seagull in the center. In the version I posted, I put a radial gradient around the seagull and raised the whites and the shadows a bit. Very subtle changes can make a huge difference. Posted: 08/09/2026 16:20:31

Yvonne, This is a great image, makes me want to be on the beach. I like its composition, the texture of the sand in the foreground, the rocks in the distance and the vibrant colors. The addition of having the bird in the frame just make this image better. I think I like Sabine's crop a little better for this. Overall, nicely done. Posted: 08/09/2026 18:55:03

This has been very interesting for me as I compare Bruce and Yvonne's takes on the photo. While Bruce lightens the shadows and add detail to rocks and the seagull, I find Yvonne's silhouettes very appealing. I did like the idea to heighten the sand grooves a bit which give a really nice direction to the subject. Very enlightening conversation! Posted: 08/10/2026 20:58:48

Great landscape shot, Yvonne. The sunset, rock formations, sand, and water are the main attractions in the image. Love the warm sunset reflecting its' tones on the shore. The seagull is a nice element, but it's not the subject (in my opinion). I don't think it needs more focus, and it looks fine as is.
