Just a Pear by Barbara Asacker

August 2026 - Just a Pear

About the Image(s)

I picked a pear with good texture and coloring to photograph. I set
the pear on an unfinished board and placed a green card for the
background. A softbox was placed on the side for lighting. A tripod
was used. It was processed in Photoshop.

Barbara, The first thing that caught my eye was the warm color of your picture. The ripe pear harmonizes beautifully with the wood tone of the unfinished board, and the background is a rich, dark green.

You've positioned the soft light perfectly; the resulting shadow emphasizes the pear's curved shape and the texture of its peel.

Every tiny detail is visible.

I'd love to take a bite of that pear right now; it makes me crave a taste of autumn.

I'd love to know if this photo is part of a series?   Posted: 08/08/2026 18:04:47

Barbara, I can already picture dark purple grapes and ripe, red apples lying on the unfinished board. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos. Please share them with us.   Posted: 08/10/2026 19:42:34

I'm in awe of the gorgeous texture of the skin on the pear. It's one of the more interesting surfaces of any fruit -- slightly rough, a bit bumpy, yet yielding to a juicy bite. Your photo capture that flawlessly!   Posted: 08/10/2026 21:20:45

Thank you so much, Douglas. Each pear has its' own characteristics.
I hunted through the pears at the market in search for an interesting one.   Posted: 08/11/2026 13:50:43

Hi Barbara, Welcome to Group 9! Lovely still life image. The green card and unfinished board perfectly compliment the pear. Positioning the pear slanted and highlighting the green side of the fruit with a green background makes for a very artistic image. Also the brown stripes on the board echo the pear's bruises. The light adding texture and glimmer to the stem also adds interest. More than Just a Pear!   Posted: 08/11/2026 13:32:26

Barbara, I think this shot of the pear is well done. I like your choice of colors, both the background and the table it is on. They work very well with the color of the pear. You also lit the pear well with the softbox bringing out the texture of it. Nice job!   Posted: 08/15/2026 20:39:57
