Coke is it! by Randy Bell

July 2026 - Coke is it!

About the Image(s)

While waiting for our entry time into the aquarium in Atlanta, I thought I would wander around
for some photos.
This building is the World of Coca Cola building, a museum of all things Coke.
I did not go into the building, but found its architecture interesting.
I converted to black and white to bring out the shapes and angles of the building and the tall
buildings behind it.
It also helped make the clouds more dramatic, I think. I welcome your thoughts on this.

Randy,
I think this photo definitely benefits being monochrome (although I would love to see your original).
Great layering of the curved modern structure, to the high rise buildings behind then to the clouds.
I love the part of the coke building where the a bottle of coke is suspended in a glass tower.

Thank you, Sylvia. I also liked the coke bottle in the glass tower. Here is the color version of it.   Posted: 07/10/2026 22:46:12

Randy,
This is a very strong monochrome image. I can't imagine that it would be as powerful in color. Maybe back the contrast down a bit in the clouds so they look more natural and don't overpower everything else.   Posted: 07/03/2026 18:33:50

Thank you, Bruce. Most of my edits are global and hadn't considered masking the sky to reduce the contrast. I think that is an interesting idea and will help. I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.   Posted: 07/10/2026 22:49:37

The middle section of the photo has so many interesting lines, shapes and shadows. It's a shame to overpower the buildings by drawing attention to the sky. The lines and patterns in the buildings are the star of the show. I also brightened the curving path at the bottom since it's a great leading line.   Posted: 07/11/2026 16:16:56

Randy, that's a fantastic architectural photograph you've taken. You have a great eye for it; the leading line, the vertical and horizontal lines, convey a sense of strength and harmony.

Everything is consistently sharp. Did you use a tripod? What camera settings did you use?

Perhaps I would brighten the image a bit overall and reduce the contrast in the clouds, as Bruce suggested. I think the clouds and the building are competing too much because of the cloud structure. But that's just my opinion.
I found the information about the building that I found online very interesting.   Posted: 07/09/2026 14:39:44

Thank you, Sabine. This is a handheld photo using my Fuji X-T20 at f/9, 1/550 sec, ISO 200. Focal length was 18mm (27mm equivalent).

I will try the editing suggestions from the group. I will try to tone the clouds down a bit. Hadn't considered using a mask on them to have different contrast levels from the buildings. I appreciate the ideas.   Posted: 07/10/2026 23:04:31

Randy, Stunning! I was drawn to the clouds then the Coca Cola writing. The dramatic dark clouds and the lines of the buildings give the image the dark look of Gotham City, Batman's home. Anything is about to happen! Lightening the clouds may give it the classic architectural photo look. I would like to see the metadata.

Coke it Is has a surreal look that sparks my imagination. Great image!   Posted: 07/10/2026 14:10:33

Thank you, Yvonne. I hadn't thought about this photo being like Gotham City, but I like that thought! The metadata is in my response to Sabine. I was using my Fuji camera. I will play around with the clouds a bit to see what I can do with them.   Posted: 07/10/2026 23:10:50

Your original is a totally different image! My favorite is still the dramatic monochrome. Thanks for the metadata.   Posted: 07/11/2026 00:18:06
