About the Image(s)
This image was captured at Lake Katherine Nature Center one evening. The water reflected the sunset and swan feathers were scattered about. The beauty and peace of this moment was captivating.
For editing I created two versions using different software with one following artificial intelligence directions. I edited the color in Fuji X Raw Studio by only changing the image to another film simulation mode. The Fuji x pro3 camera has built in profiles that emulate classic film. For the monochrome I followed AI’s suggestions which were too detailed to even list. I learned a few new techniques but could have edited with a lot fewer steps.
Ultimately, I prefer the one step color version but appreciated AI’s critique. Let me know your preference.

When I look at this, the reflection is so dreamlike that I feel like I am floating in the sky like a fairy. You've captured a beautiful sense of peace and weightlessness. While I appreciate the work you put into the monochrome AI version, I have to agree with your preference-the color version with that Fuji film simulation has such a soft, warm glow that perfectly suits the mood.
Fantastic shot!   Posted: 04/01/2026 16:24:29
I love the calmness of this image - very nice! I love that you can see clouds in the water - great reflection. I played with the crop to give more emphasis on the feather. Let me know what you think.
I agree that you choose the best color version. Interesting, I too tried getting advice from ai, this time Microsoft's co-pilot. I uploaded two different photos, turns out I uploaded the same one twice. AI told me why the second was better. Then I uploaded the actual different photo, it came in second between the two photos that were the same.   Posted: 04/01/2026 23:10:20

Photos with drastic contrasts always intrigue me and the juxtaposition of the delicate, fragile, bright downy feather against the unmovable rock and the muddy silt is striking. The reflection of the sky, sun, and clouds provide an ethereal quality that adds dimension.
My own (limited) experience with AI (ChatGPT) is that it will often lead to photos that are over wrought with tweaks and nudges and that sometimes lose their original raw beauty. For me, photographic perfection is not the goal -- creating a story or sensation is. Your photo does that well!
Thank you!

I am curious as to the film simulations you started with and what you changed it to. I have also used the Fuji Raw Studio on some of my images. I have also changed the film simulation with Lightroom using the color profile tool (or whatever it is called, I don't have the program on this computer...).   Posted: 04/08/2026 16:25:32
As far as Fuji's film simulation, I shot in Provia/Standard and changed to Acros in Fuji's X Raw Studio through my XPro3. I just discovered the profile tool in lightroom and photoshop. I appreciate your comments!   Posted: 04/17/2026 14:35:34
I almost feel as if the four elements are converging here:
water, earth in the form of stones, fire reflected in the clouds, and air through the feather.
So multifaceted, yet minimalist, full of contrasts and atmospheric at the same time! A wonderful image in which I constantly discover something new and can let my imagination run wild.
Regarding your pictures, I can say that I don't particularly like monochrome. It simply doesn't capture the mood.
I prefer your "Fleeting Moment."
Furthermore, I find the composition very fitting. As Randy wrote, the stones frame the feather. The gradient from dark to light also leads the viewer into the image and back again to the feather.
Thank you for this inspiring image, Yvonne.
Now, my suggestion isn't meant as an improvement, but rather as an idea.
I wondered what I would do with the image. After many attempts, I liked this one best. Overall, I've slightly reduced the tonal range, added a touch of yellow, and lightened the feather and the three stones using the Dodge tool.
I'm curious to hear your opinion.   Posted: 04/09/2026 09:12:33
I like your analogy of the four elements of water, earth, air and fire. I'm going to tweak the image and title slightly with that in mind. I also prefer the color version but sent the B&W print to PSA's POQ for an evaluation. See my comments to Randy. Thank you for your inspiring comments and taking the time to share your idea.

AI says I'm aiming for a Japanese minimalist aesthetic ...with some imperfections. I plan to rework the image with denoise. As always I appreciate your detailed editing suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to rework Fleeting Moment.   Posted: 04/17/2026 15:41:19
