About the Image(s)
While taking an early morning walk around the lake and set-up to take bird photos, I caught this reflection of a log, tree branch and mist in the early sunlight from the corner of my eye and took this photo. Adjustments in Topaz denoise and sharpen, applied Lightroom masks to the water, background, and the large bush on the left side of the image, and made adjustments in Lightrooms Basic module.
Handheld full frame camera with 100-400mm set at 170 mm; 1/6400 sec; f/14; ISO 2000.

Jim,
What a lovely photo! To be honest, I didn't even think of the reflection until I ready your description as I am always taken with the mist.
I love that I can just see the light at the top of the trees.   Posted: 11/11/2025 15:46:54

Jim,
I agree with Sylvia. The mist really make the photo interesting. The greens give the image a nice warm feel.   Posted: 11/11/2025 16:00:16

Jim, you've captured a truly atmospheric image.
I feel transported to the scene, standing at the edge of the lake, watching the mist rise. At the same time, I'm enjoying the morning sun, which creates this special light.
The black branch in the water bothers me a little. Is it possible to lighten it slightly and add some texture? Because of its reflection in the water and the different crop, the branch takes up
more space in the picture.   Posted: 11/12/2025 18:45:04

Thank you Sabine. Regarding the black branch, I agree with you. During post processing, any attempts to bring out detail in the black only resulted in a brownish unrealistic color, without any detail.   Posted: 11/13/2025 17:14:45
Jim, So mysterious. Once again great editing. I like how your software lightens and details the trees and the mist adds mystery. I kinda like how the dark branch in the water invites you into the image.   Posted: 11/15/2025 17:49:19

Looks great! Did you use a radiant mask on the trees?   Posted: 11/17/2025 13:55:22
Thanks Douglas. yes, I used a radiant mask on the area of the trees with the lighting. But first, I used a linear mask from the top of the image to the upper water line and then applied a radial mask in the same area, but covering only the trees with the morning sunlight. I hope that makes sense.   Posted: 11/20/2025 15:40:29
Jim, this looks like a very peaceful scene. I like your editing to lighten the trees and mist. I think I agree with Sabine with regard to the branch being a bit lighter with more detail, but I understand that is not always possible to bring that out. Either way, it give me a peaceful feeling when I look at this.   Posted: 11/18/2025 21:19:33
Thanks Randy. Yes, It was not possible to pull any detail out of the blacks in this area.   Posted: 11/20/2025 15:45:25
