Kinetic Sky by Linda Mui

October 2025 - Kinetic Sky

About the Image(s)

A dramatic, ultra-low-angle study of Manhattan’s West Side, capturing the convergence of vertical space through mobile lens perspective. The image contrasts the sleek, reflective glass of contemporary skyscrapers with the bold, industrial geometry of The Shed’s expandable structure. The composition utilizes the urban canyon effect to create a powerful sense of scale and upward momentum against a flawless blue sky, demonstrating how spontaneous street-level photography can reveal architectural grandeur often missed at eye level.

I also love the top tier of Hudson Yards peeking out above the tree tops to the right. So much going on in the photo -- and the scale of the buildings from ground level is quite overwhelming!   Posted: 10/12/2025 21:38:03

Linda, I also spotted the Hudson honeycomb...LOL. Kinetic Sky is a dramatic perspective. The first thing I noticed was the Shed's triangles which led me to the squares and triangles though out the image. My suggestion would be to remove the trees in the foreground. But it was fun to spot the honeycomb.   Posted: 10/13/2025 13:03:21

Linda, this is a very interesting, eye-catching photo. Each of the five buildings by themselves has great leading lines, but the shape of windowpanes in each also have their own leading lines, taking my view to the top center of your photo. The image is sharp and the color throughout adds to the beauty of this photo. I think that Yvonne's suggestion to remove the trees, if possible, leaving only the shed structure with triangular shapes, completes this image. Thank you for your very descriptive details of your photo. Very nicely done.   Posted: 10/16/2025 15:16:16

These skyscrapers are impressive! Your chosen perspective further reinforces this impression. I find it hard to imagine, but the middle tower has 88 floors.
I also like the variation in the glass surfaces. That, too, makes the image interesting.
The white cube stands in contrast to the skyscrapers. I just read that it's the cultural center The Shed. The outer shell can also be enlarged. Very modern.
You captured the contrast between the cool architecture and nature well, Linda.   Posted: 10/16/2025 17:36:48
