May 2025 - Fun with Color

About the Image(s)

I decided this month to play with colors and enhancements in Lightroom. These tulips were in a nearby garden and I thought the shade of orange was interesting and fun.

Doug, my first camera was film with a 100mm macro lens and I spent many hours at the local Botanical Gardens learning how to use this equipment on the variety of flower blossoms, but mostly taking photos of tulips. Great subject matter to learn from.
I like the angle and focus on the center of the blossom positioned between the two red blossoms. The depth of field used to bring focus only to the yellow blossom I think is done well. The detail captured in the center of the blossom is sharp and the color is beautiful. It's great to see signs that spring is finally here. I don't know if you intended to compose the image with the highlights in the background, so I hope you don't mind that I deleted what I thought were little distractions. What do you think? Otherwise, a very nice reminder that spring has arrived.

Doug, unfortunately spring is already over here in Germany, but your photo keeps the memory alive. Thanks for that.
I like tulips and these have a particularly beautiful color.
I like your composition, the focus is on the yellow tulip, the red tulips frame it. The center of the flower is sharp as it should be.
Jim's editing, the removal of the light areas in the background, improve the image in my opinion.
Too bad the right front tulip is cut off. It was probably not possible to photograph it any other way.

Hi Doug, your colorful tulips instantly brought back memories of my photography workshop in Holland just three weeks ago-I had never seen so many tulip fields, one after another! Thank you for bringing back those vibrant, joyful scenes. I especially love how the bright orange tulip stands out as the focal point in the foreground, with the two red tulips in the background forming a pleasing triangle. The blurred background filled with vibrant colors adds a beautiful depth and painterly quality to the image. A lovely and uplifting composition! I'd love to hear more about your editing process in Lightroom-did you use any specific tools or techniques to enhance the colors?   Posted: 05/10/2025 01:25:52

Doug, this is a nicely composed photo. I like the framing of the front flower with the two behind it and the vibrancy of the colors in the image. As Linda suggested, I would be interested in how you edited this photo. Jim's suggestion to remove the bright spots (white flowers?) does help keep the focus on the 3 tulips.   Posted: 05/11/2025 20:56:05
